Crows have strong personalities. They are intelligent, confident, sometimes funny, and occasionally look like characters with a criminal past. Recently, I watched a group of crows in a park. One particularly large bird caught my attention. It dropped a nut onto the pavement to crack it, with such confidence that it seemed to know exactly what it was doing. I found myself watching the whole group, noticing their different poses, expressions, and attitudes. I wanted to paint many of them together, each with a distinct character. Some look suspicious, some amusing, others like little gangsters in black coats. A Murder of Personalities is my interpretation of these observations — a gathering of clever, curious characters, each with a personality of its own.
