At dusk, the chickens climb onto their perches one after another, each choosing a familiar place for the night. What begins as scattered movement gradually becomes a compact group of quiet, rounded forms suspended above the floor.
This painting comes from watching that everyday ritual over many years. Rather than focusing on the activity of the farmyard, it lingers on the brief transition between movement and stillness, when the flock settles, and the shapes of the birds become the composition itself.
