Tapestry weaving, 81 × 43 × 1 inches, Year 2015
Material: wool, cotton, hemp, linen, mixed yarn; mounted on a wooden bar
Ships in a box; ready to hang.
This collage tapestry depicts a crucifixion, inspired by the traditional hand-carved crosses of Hutsulshchyna, the region where I was born. The composition consists of three parts: the central panel with the crucifixion, a lower scene showing the infant Jesus in the arms of the Virgin Mary, and an upper scene with cherubs above the crucifixion.
The tapestry is created with layered planes, giving it a rich texture. The work is complemented by a plum wood bar, matched in color to the tapestry. This piece has been exhibited internationally and demonstrates a contemporary interpretation of traditional religious textile art.
