Painted after my recent return to Ukraine, where I spent time in my native village of Kovalivka. The chickens I saw there stayed with me in their different shapes, colours and unmistakable personalities. They brought back something very familiar and opened a new direction in my ongoing exploration of chickens — one connected to the feeling of home and the things that remain with us. Being with my parents and returning to this place gave me a sense of strength and fullness. It is a place one always wants to come back to — to the native land, to family, and to the feeling of warmth, understanding, and support. It holds everything best that we preserve in memory, no matter where we live now.
