I’ve wanted to paint a single hen on a large scale for a long time, and I’m very pleased with how this one turned out. With her crown and golden tones, she has an unmistakable air of self-importance. She seems quite certain that everyone is here to admire her. And perhaps she’s right. I enjoyed playing with sky blue, ochre, brown, and bronze to bring out her distinctive character. She is proud, a little vain, and entirely comfortable with her own importance. Meet The Grand Dame. She knows exactly who she is.
